Pakistan Friday added two newcomers to its squad for the remaining five One-Day Internationals against England, after three players were suspended pending a spot-fixing investigation. "Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Irfan will join the team for the one-day series as we have decided to keep the squad of 15," Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said from Taunton, England.
Test captain Salman Butt and bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer were dropped from the rest of the England tour by the Pakistan Cricket Board before the International Cricket Council officially suspended them late Thursday. The three players along with four other Pakistani players were accused in a British Sunday tabloid sting of being part of a plan to deliberately bowl no-balls during the team's fourth Test against England at Lord's.
The PCB confirmed Shafiq and Irfan would travel to England from Sri Lanka, where they are currently staying with the Pakistan A team. The 24-year-old Shafiq has so far played one limited-overs match for Pakistan, scoring 17 runs against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka two months ago. The six-foot, eight-inch (2.03-metres) tall Irfan, a left-arm paceman, was initially included Pakistan's World Twenty 20 squad held in the West Indies in April-May this year before his name was withdrawn.
