In the ‘offending scene’, Kangana Ranaut is having a bath in her tub, the ghost spooks her, she jumps out, covered in soap suds. “What is wrong with the scene? You don’t have a bath with your clothes on!” exclaims Bhatt. “Kangana is not even nude, she is wearing a bodysuit. But the censor board says that the bodysuit is not enough, because it creates the illusion of nudity.”

The actress declined to comment — adding fuel to rumours that she has refused to promote Raaz — TMC as she feels the Bhatts are using her relationship with lead actor Adhyayan Suman to hype the film — but a source close to her says that Kangana is surprised at this furore, because she feels it gives the impression that the scene is being used as a publicity stunt. “She is surprised, because the scene only shows her bathing and she gets scared and hops out of the bathtub. There is nothing obscene.”

Bhatt feels that either the board should retain the scene and give it an ‘A’ certificate or chop it and give a ‘UA’ certificate. “What is the use of an ‘A’ certificate after chopping a scene? They want to give it an ‘A’ certificate because there is horror content, but I feel that an adult has certain sensibilities.”

Director Mohit Suri, who is recovering from fever, says, “First, my visual effects superviser got poisoned; then Vishesh Bhatt got serious food poisoning; then our hard disk kept crashing. Chandni Chowk To China and Raaz — TMC were being edited on the same machine, but it crashed whenever we tried editing. Then this problem of the censor board, and now I am sick. I am so sure this film is cursed.”
