Videsh - Heaven on Earth is the story of a young Punjabi girl, Chand (Preity Zinta), who is about to marry a man she has never seen.
Chand travels to Canada alone and is married to Rocky (Vansh Bhardwaj) in the presence of his parents and his sister's family. Initially, the family and the apparently shy Rocky seem welcoming.
Rocky's sister Aman (Ramanjit Kaur), her husband Baldev (Gourrav Sihan) and her kids Kabir (Orville Maciel) and Loveleen (Geetika Sharma) also live in the house. Chand is close to Aman who helps her adjust to her new surroundings.
It is on their honeymoon that Chand sees the ugly side of Rocky. She is quite unprepared for the violence that comes her way.
Her mother-in-law (Balinder Johal) is of no help, and tries to come between the already short-tempered Rocky and a confused Chand. It is only the fahter-in-law, and in some small and mute way Aman who try to speak for her or help her.
Apart from her abusive relationship, Chand also has to work in a factory along with her sister-in-law Aman and immigrant women from across the world.
It is here that Aman meets Rosa, a worldly-wise Jamaican woman. Rosa immediately notices that Chand is beaten by her husband. She tells Chand about her own relationship some time ago, where she too was beaten black and blue everyday. She also tells Chand about the mystery herb she had that helped her out.
When Rosa sees Chand's battered face one day, she decides to help her. She gives her magic herb to Chand and tells her to mix it in her husband's drink and see him fall in love with her instantly.
Chand is hopeful. She does as she is instructed, but the potion has no effect, instead Rocky suspects that she tried to kill him.
Desperate for a change, Chand gathers all her guts and tries again. But she gets cold feet at the sight of the bubbling drink and throws it out in the backyard.
Meanwhile, people in the house have noticed a snake. Rocky tries, but is unable to kill it.
The same night, while Rocky is supposed to be out on his night shift, she finds him in their room and his manner has completely changed. He is loving, caring and wants to share. She is surprised by this change, but has no real reason to suspect that something is amiss.
A contradiction in Rocky's personality continues, but Chand is so happy that she is loved even if it is sporadically, that she doesn't really question anything.
Finally, a turn of events pushes her to prove her fidelity to her family. There is a climactic moment that leads to a realisation for Chand, her family and even the audience.
