Tata Nano review | Tata Nano interiors Pictures, Stills

The small car is the star—is indeed the status that the Tata Nano had achieved even before its launch. So, with that kind of hype and reputation, the car has a lot to live up to.
It’s a small car of course and while it is cute, the design is also intelligent, making use of every inch of available space on the inside. Well, but how does the Nano drive?
There are three versions of the car on offer and all of them are mechanically identical with differences only in trim. The engine is in the back and sits under the luggage compartment and the rear harch does not open!
The boot is up front, which accommodates the spare wheel and the fuel inlet. The fuel capacity is 15 litres. The car is powered by a 624cc two-cylinder engine with 34 bhp on tap and it uses a four speed manual transmission. Other variations of engines and gearboxes like diesel and automatic will come on future models.
And anybody who thought the figures sounded puny, got to sample this—the car's top speed is 105 km per hour. Tata has cut it off at that for added safety, else the Nano could go faster. Now, it does 0-60 in 8.3 seconds and the mileage as per Tata's tests is 20 kilometres per litre of regular petrol.

So much for Nano! However, the tale of Tata’s Nano ought to be long enduring, going to be remembered for years to come. We would be telling even our grand kids about the car that pioneered something, not just for the Indian automobile industry or Tata Motors, but for the global industry which finds itself in a bit of a crisis as the Nano is launched.
