Chandigarh's Businessman robbed of cash, valuables while returning from Delhi

A local businessman, returning from Delhi in his car, was on Wednesday allegedly waylaid by five armed men who drove along with him
to his house here and fled after robbing cash and valuables, police said.

Lalit Behl was on his way to Sector 33 house from Delhi in his car, when five robbers near Kurukshetra on Highway No 1, waylaid him in the wee hours.

According to Behl, a car stopped near his vehicle and three armed men asked his driver to get down. They pushed him beside Behl in the rear seat and threatened to kill them if they raise an alarm.

While three men got into his car, two others followed them in their vehicle to his house in Chandigarh.

At Behl's house they disconnected the phone lines, threatened his family members and remained there for two hours. The robbers decamped with cash, both Indian and foreign currency and jewellery, Investigating Officer, Sudershan Thakur, said.

Behl had arrived in Delhi from Philippines last night. "Soon, we are going to come out with sketches of the accused," Chandigarh's Senior Superintendent of Police, S S Srivastava, said.

Last month in a similar incident in Chandigarh, Sanjiv Sachdev, son of BJP's Panchkula district chief Shamlal Sachdev, was waylaid near Karnal. Later, he was taken to his home in Panchkula and his family members were kept hostage for three hours.
