Suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, who is being probed by BCCI's disciplinary committee for alleged misappropriation of funds during the cash rich T20 cricket tournament, must be eager to hear some good news — but unfortunately all that we can dish out to him right now won't be music to his ears.
BT has learned that the makers of the much-hyped biopic based on Lalit's life, have decided to indefinitely push back the shooting of the film. They are praying for Lalit to come out clean from the allegations leveled against him before they can even think of restarting work on the project.
The film titled Commissioner had already run into bad press when it was reported that Shah Rukh Khan, who was approached to play the character of Lalit on screen, had given a thumbs down to
the project. The film was expected to trace Lalit's meteoric rise to power in the BCCI and his life story spanning from being an employee in a tobacco company to becoming the commissioner of the world's richest cricketing body. The film was expected to be treated on the lines of Mani Ratnam's Guru that was speculated to be based on the life and times of the late businessman Dhirubhai Ambani.
A top source with access to the developments of the project claims, "Lalit has got lot of bad publicity which in turn hasn't helped in the project to tee off. Since it's publicised that the film is based on Lalit's life, who would go and see a film on the life of a disgraced man? In case of a very strong verdict against Lalit, it might not be feasible for the company to even think of making the film. It will be a loss making proposition."
