A large number of Lankan Tamil refugees now camping in Tamil Nadu and political parties in the state sympathetic to the Eelam cause have refused to give credence to reports of the death of LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran.
According to an aide of Tamil leader P Nedumaran, who claims to have a channel of communication with the rebels, the footage is merely propaganda to dishearten the Tamil diaspora into admitting defeat.
“The image that is shown on TV is not of Prabhakaran. We are certain that this is malicious propaganda, being run with the help of Indian intelligence agencies,” said a person close to Nedumaran. Nedumaran echoed the line, adding that he had credible information that Prabhakaran was still alive.
The Sri Lankan Tamil Protection Movement, led by Nedumaran, has announced a ‘resurgence rally’ on May 21 to appeal to the UN and the US to immediately intervene in the conflict.
