The $6.7 billion Mahindra Group has ventured into the leisure boating industry with its first ever power boat.The company will be establishing a presence in the high potential fibreglass power-boat and catamaran manufacturing industry.
“Mahindra which has a presence in almost every segment of the transport eco system will test waters with the Odyssea. Or boats will come with exceptional service standards and a comprehensive support package including training/induction, safety practices and maintenance, said Zhooben Bhiwandiwala, director, Mahindra Odyssea.
He informed that clients will also be able to avail of unique financing options and custom-made insurance packages.
The Mahindra Odyssea 22 will be available in the market at prices starting from Rs 9.90 lakh upwards with varying fit-out levels to suit individual customer needs.
“Our country’s vast coastline and water bodies represent significant untapped potential for both water transport and marine based leisure activities. Through our first endeavour, Mahindra Odyssea, we would not only like to contribute to the organised boat industry in India but also play a key role in developing Indian waterways,” said Anand Mahindra, vice chairman and managing director, Mahindra Group.
The entry of Mahindra into the leisure boat segment is an indication for more organisations joining the fray to capitalise on the untapped Indian market in the near future. Given the current economic scenario, companies are keen to enter niche segments of the Indian market.
“Yes, definitely the effects of the global meltdown will be seen on Indian shores as well but we are sure that India won’t be that affected like other countries. This is the best time to tap Indian resources and make the best use if it,” said Bhiwandiwala.
